A Tour Inside the House.

Please excuse my amateur photography; I do not know how to control the lighting. Starting inside the front entrance hallway, we turn left through the living room and dining room respectively. Taking a left out of the dining room brings us into the back hallway. The back hallway leads to the guest room on the left, the master bedroom straight ahead, bathrooms and whirlpool on the right, and on the immediate right are the back stairway and the double doors leading to the back deck. Back into the kitchen we take a walk around the island, catch a glimpse of the T.V. room, and finish with a demonstration of the food pantry. There is a baking center just to the left of the double wall oven. The cabinets were custom made and the counter tops are granite.

Four more views to finish the outside tour.

First view is from west northwest. That's a Birch Tree on the left. The deck has some taller railings on the near right corner where we use to run the clothes lines. Lately my wife just hangs plants there.

Second view is from the north. The ramp has the following specs:
Width = 36"
Length = 68'
Load Capacity = 100+ lbs / sq'
Modular Aluminum
Slip resistant grooved floor
2" curb for roll-off protection
Double handrails 36-38" high

The third view shows the deck prior to the ramp being placed, and in a warmer time of the year. No permanent changes were made when this ramp was installed. It comes down very easily. It is set on small concrete blocks.

The final view is from north northeast. The basketball court and the four stall garage. There's lots of storage and work space in the garage. When we had parties, we would open the second stall doors on each side. If the weather was bad, everyone would come into our "breeze-way" and continue the party.

I thought I'd show one or two of the few pictures I took last year.

In the first picture, you can just make-out in the background the house with the garden in front of it.
That's a wild blueberry bush on the right.

The next four pictures are taken from West Southwest, and West. The first picture is shot through an ~ 60' X 30' fenced-in compound. This has four grapevines, three apple trees, and an enclosed garden that I want the deer to stay out of. It's 11' high.

The second picture shows a view through the fenced-in compound with a better view of a Cortland Apple Tree.

Picture three is a shot down the north side of the compound. In the bottom/middle of the picture are 125 Asparagus Plants. On the north side of the house you're starting to see the deck. On the left side of the picture you're starting to see the vegetable garden, which has several raised beds. The beds are 16' X 8' each. One bed is all garlic (we rotate each year.) Another is all strawberries.

The last picture shows the west side of the house, the deck with ramp coming-up on to it, and the back of the garage. In the forefront are the raised beds and the compost bin.

These shots are from southeast, southwest, and from inside the dining room looking out southwest. The first two windows on the right belong to the sewing room / bedroom which is off of the split entrance. Moving to the left, top floor, the first 3 windows and next 2 sets of two windows are the living room and dining room respectively. This is one huge room. The picture taken inside shows the dining room and the second set of two windows. The china cabinet you see is against the wall that seperates the dining room from the Guest Bedroom. It's currently being used as an office, which is where I'm currently keyboarding from. This room is the next two windows. the last two windows belong to the Master Bedroom. Bottom floor, from right to left, the first 3 windows belong to what was a family room and is now an exercise room. Then there are 4 sets of two windows; each set is a bedroom. The house (not counting the split entrance) is 56' long and 28' wide. There are no interior weight bearing walls. This is a double-framed (10 1/2" walls) house with floor trusses and roof trusses. The professional engineer that reviewed the design said the floor could hold an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. Everything was over-speced (eg. if specifications were every 24", we went every 18".) The studs are Burrill studs (perfectly straight, pre-cut, kiln-dried 2X4's with waxed ends.) The windows are double/triple glazed Anderson Windows.

I went out this morning and shot some pictures. This will give you a little tour of the house from the outside. The house is 23 years old. This was the third and last house I built; this is the one I wanted my family to grow-up in. The first picture is shot from the front of the driveway. It has 80 feet road frontage, 5-10 feet on the left and ~ 60 feet on the right. My children used the field on the right to play soccer, baseball, kickball, etc. with the neighborhood kids. It opens-up into the 18 acres just in front of the Douglas Fir trees on the left. There's a line of 25 pine trees running from south to north on the right. The second picture is shot from the middle of the driveway. You can barely make-out the two outside light poles on the right. This is a circular driveway. The center is a flower garden which is beautiful from mid-Spring to mid-Autumn. This area also has our 100' plus drilled well that pumps ~ 11 gallons a minute. The house is on city water, however the outside spigots are connected to the private well (no chlorine on our gardens!) It is 333 feet from the road to the corner of the house where you see the rain gutter. There is 400 feet of asphalt driveway that was paved in 2006 and resealed in 2007. There is 4" thick concrete in front of the garage which doubles as a basketball court (see right side of third picture.) The main entrance is behind the car. This is the splint entry to the house. The entrance is an 11' X 14' room with a 6' X 2.5' closet. To the left is what was originally a greenhouse that was converted into an 11' X 14" bedroom / sewing room with attic storage. To the right is an unheated 11' X 12' room connecting the entranceway to the garage; it also has a third door that leads out back to a 13' X 14' concrete slab. This outside area is where a back-up generator connects and is where one of the three sets of stairs lead up to the 14' X 50' wooden deck. A new roof with 50-year asphalt architectural shingles was installed in 2007 on all structures. Part 2 of A View of the House from the Outside, later.
